Today's SFGate has an article on how Bay Area community colleges are meeting the demand for training workers in solar panel installation.

While one of the researchers who presented the report on training workers to meet the demand for solar panels is at City College, the article does not mention how much training is happening at City College. I will get this information for a future post.
This is further confirmation of the importance of vocational training for green jobs for City College.

Our "CCSF Green Corps" student club has been discussing this sort of class as a future project. Ildiko has mentioned the idea in her "Update" posting. Some of us also thought that students could be trained by installing much needed photo-voltaic units on existing City College structures. After spending many hours in strong winds helping with the
'Bikery" on Ram Plaza, I wonder why we don't also talk about wind turbines.
Also, I think in order for the "middle class" to benefit from these sort of jobs, they need to be locally owned and operated. Probably on a smaller scale and installed by individual property owners. If it is on a large scale, out of state large scale contractors would probably be able to do the jobs more efficiently than locals.
